Proceedings of the Event
Penetration of Internet & World Wide Web has made it an indispensable part of our lives. Web has revolutionized the way in which we interact with each other and also in carrying out our day-to-day activities. It is providing a wide range of services which include the critical services like online banking, e-commerce etc. It has expanded in size, functions & utilities from passive static pages to sophisticated web applications. These technological advancements are also creating negative impact and it is continuously increasing.
Keeping this in view, C-DAC Hyd in association with SIT, JNTU Hyd and CSI Hyd Chapter have jointly planned this 2-day conference on Information Security & Ethical Hacking, INFOSEC 2013 during 8th & 9th Mar 2013. Objective of this event is to bring enlightening on security concepts and advancements in cyber security arena to academicians, students and faculty. We are happy to inform you that around 1100 students and faculty from various engineering colleges across the state and also few from other states attended the event.
Dr.Sai Baba Reddy, Rector JNTU Hyderabad inaugurated the conference. In his inaugural address he expressed that cybercrime is more dangerous than physical crime and it is very important for common man to have general awareness on cyber threats and protection mechanisms. He also indicated that young engineers should work towards designing better protection mechanisms to address the continuously evolving cyber threat.
Shri U.Rama Mohan, SP, Cyber Crime Division gave the keynote address. He expressed that in this Internet & mobile phone era, general awareness on cyber threats is very important. He also expressed that public play vital role to protect from cybercrime.
Dr.Bhulokam, General Manager, CMC Ltd gave the special address. He expressed that now-a-days threat is more from web applications and it is very challenging to protect from these threats. Also, indicated that disciplined process has to be followed by organizations and Internet users along with technologies to protect from cybercrime.
Dr.N.Sarat Chandra Babu, Executive Director, C-DAC Bangalore heighted the need for trusted systems and expressed that there is a huge scope to carryout research in hardware security. He also expressed that when we move from IPv4 to IPv6 security becomes more critical.
Dr.M.Srinivasa Rao, Director, SIT,JNTU Hyd, Dr A.Govardhan, JNTU and Shri V.Muralidharan, C-DAC Hyd also addressed the gathering.
After Inauguration expert talk on "Cyber Crimes – Cyber Forensics Investigator's Perspective was delivered by Shir Krishna Sastry Pendyala from Cyber Forensic Scientist at Bureau of Police Research & Development, Directorate of Forensic Science.
Other sessions of the conference are planned with relevant practical oriented technical sessions with topics covering different domains, like web security, mobile security, ethical hacking, secure coding practices, malware reverse engineering, OS Exploitation etc.
First day's focus was on ethical hacking by Mrs.K.Indraveni, Malware Reverse Engineering by Mr.Himanshu P and Detecting Web Vulnerabilities by Mr A.Saleem & Mr K.Raja Sekhar. Second day's focus was on secure coding practices by Mrs Lakshmi Eswari, OS Exploitation by Mr Shashank & Mr Aakash K Goel and Mobile Security by Mr. Mahesh Patil. Students are exposed to various tools in all the sessions. In addition to the technical sessions, various events like quiz programs , Photo Contest, InfoSec Quote Contest etc are also planned. Shortlisted papers were presented by students. All the delegates actively participated and prizes were distrobuted to the winners during the valedictory function
In valedictory session, Shri G V Raghunathan Welcomed all the Guests and addressed the gathering about importance of Information Security Education and Awareness. Prof Rameshwara Rao, Hon Vice Chancellor, JNTU Hyderabad was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function addresses the gathering about importance of layers in network security. Other guests of honour are Dr.D.Chakrapani (Rtd IAS), Director, CIPS, Hyderabad, Mr Lakshmi Narayan Raju, CEO Logic Designers. Shri Murthy, C-DAC Hyderabad, Shri I.L.N.Rao, CSI Hyderabad Chapter Chairman, Prof Srinivasa Rao Director SIT, JNTU Hyderabad were also present during the valedictory and addressed the gathering.
Mr.Aakash K Goel had cheered the event with his excellent compering for the entire two days
Around 1,200 students and faculty from various engineering colleges across the country attended the event.
